We spent a week with Mom & Dad Z. at a place Jim vacationed at as a young boy. Black Butte Ranch is tucked away in the Cascade Mountains near Sisters, Oregon. This Ranch is beautiful, with mountains surrounding the Ranch Lake, golf courses snuggled in between forests of pine, fur, and birch, streams running throughout the property, and a boardwalk that twists around the entire perimeter of the lake. Though there is a second newly constructed club house and many new homes shooting up on the south end of the Ranch, it still feels unpretentious; from the looks of it, many of the homes, condos and the original club house have not changed much since they were built years ago. And although there hundreds of homes through out the property, it doesn't seem like it; everything is nestled in corners of groves of trees, almost hidden away.
Views from the original club house lawn at the edge of the lake.
There are always things to do there to keep you moving. Or there is plenty of nothing to do, if you'd like. In any case, it was so relaxing.
HORSE BACK RIDING
SOAP MAKING
HIKING
FEEDING THE FISH AT A FISH FARM
(still part of our day hike)
AND VIEWING THE MOST SPECTACULAR NATURAL SPRING I'VE EVER SEEN.
KAYAKING IN THE LAKE
Black Butte, the mountain the Ranch is name after.
RELAXING IN THE SUN
RAFTING DOWN THE MCKENZIE
celebrating mom's birthday while we stopped for lunch.
AND OF COURSE TO FINISH OFF THE TRIP, SMORES ON THE BBQ.
