blue suede shoes and little house?

Blue suede shoes and little house, you say?  Well...my infatuation with the Little House stories started when I was a wee young girl.  There was something that kept me completely glued to the books by Laura Ingalls Wilder and the tv show that Michael Landon produced; it had to have been my being brought up on a farm and living that life of simplicity--there was a connection.  So, to this day I still l.o.v.e. the books and tv shows (I own all seasons and movies on dvd!).  And when days are short and I am exhausted, I appreciate having the tv version of this deliciously idealic world I can immerse myself in for a brief moment.  I love how these people of the past are portrayed in the show: Pa being a protective husband and father, a man of integrity, & faithful friend.  Ma is an incredible example of a godly wife and mother.  The whole life is simple, uncomplicated and quiet...something I am constantly striving for my family.  And yes, I do realize that it is only a tv show and that times were very different in many ways than the directors and writers tried to convey but still, it sparks a desire for me and my family to live a life of quiet reflection on Christ in world so filled with distractions.

The blue suede shoes?  Any of you who know my Man, know the times are few and far between that anyone gets to see anything other than his quiet, reserved side.  It was more so few and far between, way back when, that even I got to see this hidden, secretive part of him.  But one night forever ago when Jim & I were playing Cranium with some friends he surprised me more than he ever had.  He had pulled the charades card, all of us were sitting waiting for him to act out his card, him being the only one standing, when all of a sudden he breaks out a swagger hip roll that only Elvis could pull off along with the planted foot, bended knee, and both arms up in the air.  WE HOWLED!  Not one of us had a dry eye.  From then on, he was Blue Suede Shoes.

But a whole other part to this is that Jim & I have collectively decided that we have somehow been placed in the wrong era.  ;)  We think we really would have loved living 'back in the days'...the 1950's seem pretty decent: cool music, swagger clothes, slick hair-do's, cars to drool over.  The 1920's, now that, that is an era I could see my Man in.  Imagine him in the old school trousers and the blazer & vest to match, the necessary handkerchief & suspenders, Brogue shoes, and the infamous Homburg hat.  Ohhhh...He could dashingly pull that look off!

Then there's the time of Laura Ingalls Wilder.  Simple, uncomplicated, and slow.
{Sigh}
What else do I need to say?

And so, our daydreams lie somewhere in Blue Suede Shoes, Little House.....and everything in between.
